It is always an adventure scouting for a place to have a family reunion. Especially with The Old Man.
He has learned two important words: Motel and Hotel. Not very well, but those two words have crept into his vocabulary. The first hotel was nice (a national chain), but just as he was rinsing the soap off in the shower, they turned the water off. So, no shower for me. Next was a local motel (Sea Side Inn ??) which was interesting. They had been working on updating this motel. Really nice new windows, but needed a new roof and more. On entering the room there was a 1939 dresser with matching side tables with greyish marble tops. The bathroom was interesting with a turquoise sink, toilet and tile. There was NO coffee maker in the room!!
**No coffee maker!! We put into the GPS for the next place to scout and thought it would take us past a place to get breakfast and coffee. Well, it took us on back roads, so NO coffee. Finally got coffee around noon.
The next hotel was another national chain. It was nice, but grumpy neighbors. The fourth place was a local motel with a national name. It was painted blue. ((Now I had looked at this one from the car while The Old Man was buying beer. All I could think was This one was scary!!)) We started to go to another one, but The Old Man didn't like the rates. So back to the Blue one. There were old chairs or benches outside of the rooms, along with Blue buckets. The rooms had been updated (??????) or made larger. A little eating area, a dressing area and a new bathroom counter and bath surround. The baseboards were all different, the ceiling heights in the main room and dressing area were different, and they had dry walled over the place where the old A/C had been. The painter had not taped anything or cleaned up drips. There were more mistakes, but I think you get the idea. The Old Man checked out the "free breakfast" and told me we would be going some where else for breakfast.
The last place was a national chain and was nice. Since they didn't have breakfast, they gave us coupons at the "sister" hotel's restaurant for breakfast. The cook was 79 and had learned to cook from her mother that was going to turn 101 in a month. That breakfast was the best on the whole trip.
The next post will be about the places we went to see and the side trips. (Saw a hydro dam)
Our GPS is named Gloria. She has problems with Left and Right. Glad I had my map!
