The Old Man

This is for all the followers out there.

The Old Man will be having, what I will call major surgery on Tuesday May 27.

The two of the sores in his mouth turned out to be cancerous. The plan is for them to remover the cancer tumors from the bottom of the mouth and graft the skin with skin from his back. They will also remove the lower  front teeth and that part of the jaw with bone from his shoulder blade.

The surgery will take all day and then he will be in the Burn Unit of UC Hospital for 5 days. The Burn unit are knowledgeable in grafts and the best place he can be.

They are looking into a Rehab that will best suit the situation. This rehab will most probably be for a few weeks.

Once he starts healing, Radiation will begin. They will try to save the mustache.

While getting ready for surgery, he has had all teeth that will not survive radiation.. removed. Right now he has NO top teeth and very few lower. After surgery he won't have any. Dentures will be fitted after healing, so that will be a while. In the mean time it is a liquid meal. (Hey..I can't burn those meals??)

On his Surgical Team are: The Doctor, many Residents, Amanda (the go to person), a social worker, a Speech therapist, a nutritionist, the Radiologist  and many people in between. Nice thing is they are all on the same page, talk to each other and have The Old Man as the center. (caring)

Daughter #2 has set up a CaringBridge site for him. This site has a calendar for those to see that do not have a google/gmail account.

I have given the shortened version. Many tests have been done, many doctor visits, hands pitching in to cover child care. Thanks to All !
